Transformation: The Unfolding of a Savvy Leader

Hey there! Let's Talk About Becoming the Leader You're Meant To Be

As things start blooming around us in May, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about a different kind of growth – the kind that happens inside us, especially as we step into our leadership roles.

Something a speaker said recently really stuck with me. They talked about this almost magnetic pull back to situations that we know aren't good for us. It made me realize something big about change: even when our brains know it's time to move on, there's this strong comfort in what's familiar. Sound relatable? It definitely does for me when it comes to leading and growing.

But here’s the thing I’ve been realizing: really big transformation in leadership isn't just about adding a new skill or two. It's more like a complete shift, a moment where the "you" of the past just can't quite hold the "you" that's emerging. It's not just about choosing a salad once in a while – it's a fundamental change in who we are as leaders.

Think about it – if you've truly grown, those old ways of doing things, those old habits, just don't feel right anymore. It's like trying to fit into clothes you’ve outgrown. The desire for them just isn't there because, well, you're different now.

This kind of change takes guts, though. Letting go of what we know, even if it wasn't serving us, can feel like stepping off a cliff. But honestly, it's in that space, that moment of letting go, that the leader you're meant to be can actually take shape and thrive.

So, I’ve been asking myself (and now I’m asking you): Who is the leader you really want to become? Whose leadership do you look at and think, "Wow, I really admire that"? What qualities in others make you think, "Yeah, I'd love to have more of that"?

Those feelings? They're like little breadcrumbs pointing you in the right direction. It's not about wanting to be that other person, but about recognizing the things that truly resonate with your own leadership aspirations.

My own journey lately has really highlighted this for me. Sometimes, it's the unexpected challenges that push us to become someone we never thought we could be. It’s a reminder that growth isn't always easy, but it’s always an opportunity to become a more authentic and powerful leader.

As I gear up to launch my online course and get the Savvy Leaders Podcast off the ground next month, I’m embracing this idea of continuous unfolding. I hope you will too. Let's have the courage to let go of what no longer fits and step confidently into the leaders we're becoming.
