🌄 Travelog ~ ABQ New Mexico: Two Weeks of Sunsets, Chilis, and High Mountain Views

🌄 ABQ New Mexico: Two Weeks of Sunsets, Chilis, and High Mountain Views

Our Central New Mexico adventure started just east of Albuquerque in Edgewood, where we parked our RV at the welcoming Route 66 RV Park. We stayed in this area for a couple of weeks, and the place quickly felt like home.

A huge shout-out goes to Melody, the campground manager, who is also the force behind the Red Arrow Grill food truck. She truly made our mornings memorable! We indulged in her spectacular cooking—that Hatch green chili cheese and sausage omelet and her classic biscuits and gravy are seriously the best way to start the day. Plus, there was always free, hot coffee flowing. Our dog, Bear, was just as happy with the park as we were!

We made sure to dive into the local culture, heading to Old Town Albuquerque to observe the beautiful traditions of Día de los Muertos.

Peaks, Culture, and Culinary Heat

One of the most moving parts of our trip was taking the tram up Sandia Mountain. At the summit, we visited the spot where my husband’s father’s ashes were scattered 35 years ago—a very meaningful tribute. We shared a sweet s’mores dessert and a glass of wine up there, simply soaking in the incredible view and the memory.

We also enjoyed a fantastic day trip to Santa Fe. Walking around the city is so peaceful; it felt like a perfect, relaxing Sunday afternoon. It’s beautiful, incredibly welcoming, and rich with Native culture. We spent time viewing magnificent artwork and, of course, sampling more delicious food.

Speaking of food, you can’t miss the green chili here—it’s everywhere and adds that perfect kick to every meal! We tried to eat like locals every chance we got. And for a bit of fun, we took a few casual drive-bys of some Breaking Bad filming locations—just a quick nod to pop culture!

The New Mexico Vibe

It was a truly wonderful experience. What I loved most about Central NM was being surrounded by those colorful Southwestern mountains, enjoying the breezy afternoons, and witnessing those incredible, never-ending sunsets.

This leg is done for now, and we're excited to continue our journey south to the SW corner of New Mexico. More natural beauty and surprises are definitely waiting for us!
